Detox at Home

                    | Share

Various FruitsFor people looking to cleanse their bodies, an article in Lifestyle Inquirer provides recipes for two detox treatments that can be done at home.

Detoxification is removing toxic substances from the body in order to improve immune and hormone function as well as psychological wellness.

“You should feel better, lighter and cleaner with a detox; it should not make you sick and overly uncomfortable,” wrote the author.

The article does note that some people experience headaches during the detox, which is often the result of caffeine withdrawal.

“Weight loss as a result of detoxing is only temporary,” the article states. “Detox is to cleanse, and that is the primary reason one goes on a program.”

The first detox recommended by the article is a fruit detox. For two or three days participants eat nothing but fresh fruit and fruit juices which are loaded with vitamins and minerals as well as fiber.

“It is widely believed that citrus fruits have the largest detoxifying effects,” wrote the author.

The article suggests participants eat only fresh fruits because dried fruits are high in sugar. Participants also should only drink water or fruit juice, avoiding coffee and other beverages during the detox.

The second detox suggested by the article is a gall bladder flush from the recipe from the book, The Cure for All Diseases by Hulda Regehr Clark.

According to the article, participants must avoid strenuous activities for the two days of the detox.

The first day requires participants to eat only fresh fruit and drink only fruit they’ve juiced themselves from the time they wake up until 2 p.m.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., participants must fast, eating and drinking no water or food at all. At 6 p.m. participants should then dissolve 1 tablespoon of Epsom salts in 12 oz of water and drink it. After the drink, the article says that participants can eat a piece of fruit to cover the taste.

At 8 p.m. participants should drink another glass of salt water.

At 10 p.m. participants mix 4 oz of extra-virgin olive oil with the juice of four lemons or two grapefruits and drink. Then, according to the recipe, participants should lie on their left side for at least 20 minutes before falling asleep.

On the second day, participants should drink another salt solution when they wake up (around 7 a.m.) and again at 9 a.m., but they should not eat or drink anything else.

At noon participants can then enjoy a light, fat-free lunch.

According to the article, “This detox program will remove gall stones from your digestive system. You will be making frequent trips to the bathroom and you will expel green and/or brown stones. This is a safe and effective way to cleanse your digestive system and your gall bladder.”

People with medical conditions such as diabetes and high-blood pressure as well as pregnancy should not participate in a detox program, suggests the author.
