Herbal Medicine Improves Immune System of HIV Patients

                    | Share

Herbs Conditon lablesScientists from India developed an herbal medicine that can improve the lives of HIV patients without side effects or drug resistance, according to an article in the Sakaal Times Jan. 2, 2010.

Professor B B Ballal from Yashwantrao Mohite College and the lead scientist on this discovery said that the herbal medicine they developed increases CD4 cells that are responsible for regulating the immune system and minimizes the viral load of HIV infected patients.

With a lower viral load, patients have stronger immune systems and thus can better fight HIV-related infections.

The researchers began studying more than 200 herbs in 1993 and developed two sets of herbal medicines named Cytonini and Cytomaw. They conducted clinical trials on more than 900 patients for more than 10 years and found the drugs to be safe and effective.

Antiretroviral therapy that is commonly used to treat HIV Patients often has a variety of side effects including headache, dry mouth, dizziness, and hair loss. The body also can develop a resistance to the antiretroviral therapy.

According to the article, Cytonini and Cytomaw have no side effects and the body does not develop resistance to these herbal medicines.

Anxious? Try Herbal Green Tea

                    | Share
image According to an article by James Quirk, natural green tea can reduce stress and anxiety and may also help prevent conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and some cancers. The article, says that green tea contains L-Theanine, which is an amino acid that promotes relaxation by affecting a brain neurotransmitter that governs stress reactions. Green tea also contains plant-based compounds that can improve relaxation and over-all feelings of well-being.

However, green tea also contains caffeine, which stimulates the nervous system and can counteract some of the relaxing effects.

Although green tea contains much lower levels of caffeine than in coffee, the article describes an easy process by Dr. Weil to remove up to 80 percent of the caffeine in a cup of green tea.

Dr. Weil’s directions:
1. Place the tea bag(s) in a cup of very hot water, as you normally would.
2. Allow the tea bags to soak for approximately 45 seconds. During this time, most of the caffeine will be released into the water.
3. Dump the water and refill with fresh hot water.
4. Steep the tea as normal. Little of the caffeine will remain, but the flavor and the natural anti-anxiety compounds will still be present.
