Tai Chi Reduces Diabetes, Depression, Obesity

Tai Chi can reduce diabetes, obesity and depression, according to a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Queensland in Australia.

The three-month pilot study, funded by the Australia Research Trust, found that participants with clinical levels of depression degreased from 60 percent to 20 percent during the study. Additionally, the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference of participants, decreased by 4 and 3 percent respectively.

Tai Chi Could Help Stroke Patients Recover

tai chi sunset beachA new study is trying to determine if tai chi can help stroke patients recover, according to a KOLD-TV article Feb. 5, 2010.
 
Dr. Ruth Taylor-Piliae, a cardiovascular nurse at the University of Arizona College of Nursing believes that tai chi can help stroke patients improve their physical and mental health and sleep quality, and thus avoid becoming depressed.
 
She is conducting a study of recovering stroke patients to demonstrate her ideas.
