Vitamins

Vitamins are organic compounds that your body needs to grow, develop and function normally. There are 13 vitamins your body needs: A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, B6, B12 and folate).

Because vitamins are needed to keep the body healthy, having a deficiency, or only a low level of vitamins in the body, may lead to health problems and the development of diseases. At the same time, high doses of some vitamins can also cause sickness.

Each vitamin has specific jobs, and the best way to get enough of the vitamins you need is to eat a balanced diet with a variety of foods. In some cases, a daily multivitamin may be needed for optimal health.
